Your documents, prompts, and answers are never uploaded to any server.
EQBook requires no registration, login, or personal information to use.
All inference (LLM, embeddings, Whisper) runs locally on your Apple Silicon chip.
EQBook does not collect crash reports, usage analytics, or diagnostics by default.
EQBook ("the App", "we", "our") is an on-device AI research workspace for macOS. This Privacy Policy describes what data the App accesses, where it is stored, and how it is used.
The core principle is simple: your research content never leaves your device. The App is designed to function entirely offline after the initial model download, and it does not require an internet connection to run Q&A, transcription, or semantic search.
When you add a source to a workspace, the App may copy the file to its local Application Support directory (~/Library/Application Support/EQBook/workspaces/). This copy never leaves your device. The App reads file content solely to extract text for the RAG pipeline (chunking and embedding).
The App requests microphone permission only if you attempt to import a live audio recording. Audio files imported from disk do not require microphone permission. Transcription of audio and video files is performed entirely on-device using Whisper Small (CoreML). No audio data is sent to any third-party transcription service.
The App requests network access for one purpose only: downloading the selected Gemma 4 model during the first-launch setup wizard. After the model is downloaded, the App can operate fully offline. There are no background network calls, analytics pings, or telemetry endpoints.
All workspace data — source files, transcriptions, vector embeddings, chat history, insights, and settings — is stored on your device in ~/Library/Application Support/EQBook/. You can inspect, back up, or delete this data at any time using Finder.
EQBook uses the following third-party services in a limited, privacy-preserving way:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Model download service | Model download at first launch | Standard HTTPS request; the server may log your IP per its own policy |
| Apple Mac App Store | App distribution | Governed by Apple's privacy policy |
The App does not integrate any advertising SDKs, third-party analytics (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase, etc.), or remote LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). All LLM inference uses the locally downloaded model.
EQBook runs in the macOS App Sandbox. Its entitlements are limited to:
The App cannot access files outside those you select, cannot read your contacts, photos, or calendar, and cannot communicate with the internet outside the model download flow.
EQBook is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect any personal information from any user, this is not a practical concern, but we state it for completeness.
All data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all EQBook data at any time by:
~/Library/Application Support/EQBook/ or uninstalling the appDeleting the App removes all workspace data, models, and settings from your device. This action is irreversible.

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App's features or applicable law. Material changes will be noted in the App's release notes. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
