By downloading, installing, or using EQBook ("the App", "the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
EQBook is a privacy-first, on-device AI research workspace for macOS 26+ running on Apple Silicon hardware. It enables users to organise documents and media files into workspaces and interact with them through a locally-run large language model (Gemma 4, via the MLX framework), a vector-based retrieval system, and an on-device speech transcription engine (Whisper).
EQBook is proprietary software. You are granted a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the App on Apple Silicon Mac hardware you own or control, subject to these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or sublicense the App or its source code without express written permission.
You retain full ownership of all content you import into EQBook. The App does not acquire any rights, licenses, or ownership over your documents, audio files, research notes, or AI-generated outputs. Your content is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.
EQBook downloads AI model weights during first launch. These models are governed by their own respective licenses:

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
The App uses locally-run large language models to generate responses. You acknowledge that:
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall EQBook contributors, maintainers, or distributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages (including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the App, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the EQBook contributors and maintainers from any claim, demand, or damage, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
We may update the App and these Terms at any time. Updated Terms will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes to the Terms constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part of it) at any time without notice.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in accordance with applicable local laws.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms will otherwise remain in full force and effect.
